Vaughn R. Boruff, 82 of Buffalo Prairie, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family into the presence of his Savior on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Funeral services are 10:00 AM, Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church. Interment is in Buffalo Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is from 3-7 PM Sunday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00PM by the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge #679. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church, Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge #679 or to the Buffalo Prairie Cemetery Association. He was born May 15, 1930 in Eliza Township to Chester and Lucy (Powell) Boruff. Vaughn graduated from Joy High School class of 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October of 1948 and served on the U.S.S. Valley Forge. He was honorably discharged and returned to the family farm.

He was a semi-retired farmer and active community volunteer, and took his greatest satisfaction from his involvement in the lives of his family.

In addition to volunteer activities, many may have known Vaughn as a clerk throughout his life at local auctions or from playing for many years at local dances as a member of Elliott's Orchestra. At one of these dances he met his future bride, Shirley A. Guthrie and they married August 31, 1952 in Aledo. They were married for 58 years until her passing on September 4, 2010.

Vaughn enjoyed traveling, dancing and spending time with his grandkids. He was a devout Illini fan and loved watching old movies.

He was a lifelong member of the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities including church treasurer for many years, a past Master and 50 year member of the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge #679, past patron of the Buffalo Prairie Order of the Eastern Star, a 50 year member of the Moline Consistory and Kaaba Shrine in Davenport, a past-president and member of the former Westmer School Board, he was on the Board of Directors and a past-president of the Hamlet Mutual Insurance Company, a board member of the Buffalo Prairie Cemetery Association, and also was on the Board of Directors at the Buffalo Prairie State Bank for many years.

Survivors include 3 sons: Chet (Joy) Boruff of Moline and their children Scott (Amanda) Boruff and Amy Boruff all of Chicago; Greg (Diane) Boruff of Reynolds, and their children, Abby Boruff of West Des Moines, Rob Boruff of Buffalo Prairie, Melissa Varnell of Reynolds, Nicole (Brandon) Lafever of Illinois City, Kayla (Lance) Bull of Buffalo Prairie; Stan (Karla) Boruff of Illinois City and their children Nick (Marissa) Boruff of Illinois City, Alyssa Boruff of West Des Moines and Taylor Boruff of Illinois
City; 9 great grandchildren Will, Colin, Kimber, Colton, Hailie, Isabelle, Samantha, Natalie and Garrett; two brothers: Marlin (Helen) Boruff and Gary (Pat) Boruff both of Venice, FL; one very special companion, Nancy Retherford and her family; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

His parents; wife, Shirley and two brothers John and Glenn preceded him in death.
