Stephanie A. Braucht, 69 of Joy, IL died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at UnityPoint Health in Rock Island, IL. Services are 10:00 a.m. Monday October 9, 2017 at Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church. Burial is in the Buffalo Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is 2-6 PM Sunday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Mercer County Historical Society. She was born April 11, 1948 in Streator, Illinois to Albert and Virginia Cameron Sirotnak. Stephanie graduated from Westmer High School in 1966 and Western Illinois University in Macomb in 1970. She was united in marriage to Blaine C. Braucht June 14, 1970 in Joy, IL.

Stephanie was a freshman English teacher in the Rockridge School District for seven years. After receiving her master’s degree in guidance and counseling in 1980, she was employed as a guidance counselor at Westmer Junior/Senior High School until 1988. Stephanie then took the position as guidance counselor for the Rockridge Junior High School, retiring in 2006. She was board certified with the National Board for Certified Counselors.

She was a member and served on the board for the Mercer County Historical Society and member and secretary for Mercer County History Forum. She served on the board for the Mercer County Schools Excellence in Education Foundation and was a former member of the Westmer school board.

She enjoyed geneology, researching for Mercer County Historical Society, taking train trips with Blaine, making jewelry and collecting rocks. She loved antiques and collectibles and bragging on her sons and grandchildren.

Stephanie is survived by her husband, Blaine; two sons, Morgan (Laura) Braucht of Jacksonville, IL; Jared Braucht of Denver, CO; 3 grandchildren: Victoria, Jacob and Clara.

Her parents preceded her in death.
