Shirley A. Weir, age 90, of Galesburg, IL, formerly of Rio, IL, died Friday July 20, 2018 at Hawthorne Inn, Galesburg. Cremation has been accorded. Memorial services are 11:30 am. Saturday July 28, 2018 at the Rio Presbyterian Church. Burial is in the Rio Baptist Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 AM until time of services Saturday at the church where memorials may be left to Rio Presbyterian Church, Hawthorne Inn Activity Fund or Compasses Hospice. Shirley was born July 10, 1928 in Harmon, IL to Melvin F. and Dessil Young Johnson. She graduated Valedictorian from Alpha High School in 1946. She married Perry D. Weir Jr. June 5, 1949 in Ophiem, IL. He died in 2006.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm and home where she resided for 63 years.
Shirley was a very active member of the Rio Presbyterian Church for 61 years where she served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher and Women’s Service Guild. She enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, painting, crafting, especially corn husk dolls, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters: Debra (Wayne) Hannam of Oak Run, Dahinda, IL; Darla (John) Cratty of Galesburg, IL; one son: Daryl (Cheryl) Weir of Knoxville, IL; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a long time best friend Mary Anne Lovdahl of Lynn Center, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and a nephew.
