Shirley Tornquist

Shirley Lou (Milner) Tornquist, 84, of New Windsor, IL, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at Genesis Senior Living Center in Aledo with her family by her side. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. Burial is in the Hopewell Cemetery, rural New Windsor. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left to Calvary Lutheran Church or Hopewell Cemetery. Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha is serving the family. She was born March 16, 1930 in Alexis, Illinois to Charles and Edythe Davis Milner. She attended the Mercer County schools. Shirley married Dale Tornquist August 17, 1952 in Norwood Presbyterian Church, Norwood, Illinois.

Shirley was a homemaker and assisted with the family farm.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, having formerly served on the church council and sang in the church choir. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved being with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dale; one son, Ronald (Becky) Tornquist of New Windsor; one daughter, Roberta (Sid) Carlson of Rio, Illinois; 4 grandchildren, Rhonda (Troy) Copeland, Karen Tornquist, Lisa Carlson and Lara Carlson; 2 great grand-daughters, Lauren and Jenna Copeland; two sisters, Gloria (Wilbert) Swihart, of Arnold, California; Dariel Milner of Galesburg; one brother, Larry (Donna) Milner of West Liberty, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and three sisters.
