Shirley E. Sproston, 80, of Aledo, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Mercer County Nursing Home. Services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Aledo First Baptist Church or Mercer Carnegie Library. She was born June 24, 1931 in Marston, IL a daughter of Roy and Hazel (Sowder) Dellitt. She attended the local schools and married Charles Anderson August 29, 1948 and later married Benjamin Sproston May 29, 1976 in Aledo. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2010.
Shirley was formerly employed at Jaydon in Milan, IL. She was a lifelong homemaker and an avid reader. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Aledo and the Mercer County VFW Post #1571 Auxiliary.
She is survived by 5 daughters, Sharon Moore of Aledo; Janice Rosene of New Windsor; Peggy (Rob) Schlecht of St. Petersburg, FL; Penny (Chris) Clayton of Viola; Lynda (Mark) Castor of Aledo, 2 sons, Michael (Marlene) Anderson of Leeseville, LA; Joseph (Marlene) Anderson of Surprise, AZ, 5 step-children, Sandy Peterson of Georgia, Sharon (John) Lingafelter; Steve Sproston; Tracy (Mike) Rice all of Aledo; Terry Sproston, of Las Vegas, NV, 10 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren,, 3 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ben, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 grandson, Dean Matalik, and one son-in-law, Bill Rosene.
