Shirley Rice

Shirley J. Rice, 86, of Alpha, IL, died Monday, September 9, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg. Services are 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Alpha United Methodist Church. Burial is in the Alpha Cemetery. Visitation is noon until the time of service at the church. She was born July 9, 1927 in Knoxville, Illinois to Ross and Clara Higgins Adcock. She attended the Alpha Schools and graduated from Galesburg High School. She married Charles C. Rice February 4, 1946. He died in August 29, 2001.

Shirley was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of their farm. She was employed at Paul's Market in Alpha for a few years. She was a member of the Alpha United Methodist Church, Alpha United Methodist Women and the Henry County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed reading and visiting with her friends.

She is survived by three sons: Bill (Dorothy) Rice of Lebanon, IN; Bob Rice of Alpha, IL; Neal (Cathy) Rice of Viola, IL; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; one brother: Dale (Jane) Adcock of Galesburg, IL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters and one brother.
