Russel Wadhams, 86, of New Windsor, IL. Died Friday December 9, 2011 at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg, IL. Funeral Services are 1:30 PM Wednesday at the Viola United Methodist Church. Burial is in the Viola Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 - 7 PM Tuesday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where a memorial fund will be established. He was born September 10, 1925 in Galesburg to Harry and Emma Carlson Wadhams. He attended the local one room school and Oneida High School. On September 20, 1953 he married Opal L. Montgomery in Viola, Il. They lived on the family farm all of their married life.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Russel farmed, was employed at John Deere Plow and Planter in Moline, was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church and helped with SHARE Food when his health permitted. He especially loved his family and enjoyed taking his grandkids for hayrack rides behind the tractor
Survivors include his wife, Opal, 3 sons, Rodney Wadhams of Monmouth, IL, Ken (Mary) Wadhams of Batavia, IA, Danny Wadhams of Malcolm, IA. Grandchildren, Billie Jo and Brant Albany, Melissa and Jason Stanfield, Russel, Donna, Daniel, Karen Eric, Dory, Evan and Dakota Wadhams, Jessica Luke, Latosha and Jonathan Martin, 9 great grandchildren with 1 lovingly expected. 3 sisters, Marian (Claude) Reffett of Altona, IL, Harriett (Leland) Peterson of Woodhull, IL, Beverly (Gary) Cook of Grinnell, Ia, 2 brothers, Donald (Bonnie) Wadhams of New Windsor, Bill (Twila) Wadhams of Danville, Il. and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, 1 daughter Dorothy, 1 son David, 1 grandson David, 1 sister Ellen Harshbarger and 2 brothers Melvin and Laverne preceded him in death.
