Roy J. Schwartzkopf, 87 of Woodhull, IL, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at home. Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial is in the Alpha Cemetery. Visitation is 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be left to the AlWood FFA or the Bishop Hill Community Fire Protection District. He was born July 16, 1928 in rural Ophiem, Illinois to Chris and Amy Olson Schwartzkopf. He attended the local Ophiem schools. On September 21, 1947 he was united in marriage to Helen Willett in Alpha. They were happily married for 62 years. She died September 2, 2010.
Roy worked one winter at John Deere in Moline and as soon as spring arrived, he decided to farm in the Henry County area. He was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau and the Flemish American Club in Kewanee. Roy enjoyed farming, dancing and traveling to Las Vegas.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Linda Schwartzkopf of Galva; two grandchildren, Tammy (Walter) Humbird of Rosharon, TX; Kevin (Kendra) Schwartzkopf of Woodhull; four great grandchildren; one great great grandson; several nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, one son, Daniel, one grandson, Michael, one sister, Louise Bates and one brother, Russell preceeded him in death.
