Rollin “Rollie” William Roselle, 83 of Galva, Illinois entered eternal life Friday, March 17, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice in Peoria. Cremation has been accorded. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. The memorial service will directly follow the visitation at noon. Memorial contributions may be left to Calvary Lutheran Church or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Rollie was born December 2, 1939 in Galesburg, Illinois to Henry William “Bill” and Frances Augusta Mathilda (Anderson) Roselle. He grew up on a farm near Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1957, where he was active in 4-H and FFA. Rollie attended the University of Illinois for two years. In the early 1970’s, Rollie graduated from Western Illinois University.
During the 1960’s, Rollie and his father owned a farm implement business, Roselle Equipment Co. in Knoxville featuring the Minneapolis-Moline brand. In 1961, he married JoAn Timmons. Together they had two children, Lori and Andrew. They later divorced. In 1985, he married Sybil (McAtee) Brown. They lived in rural Viola until moving to Galva in 2019.
In his late 20’s, Rollie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. He was dedicated to studying and managing his disease, and was extremely proud of beating the odds and outliving expectations by more than 15 years.
He began his banking career at the former First National Bank of Galesburg. In 1979, Rollie moved to Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois, as a lender, president and comptroller.
Rollie was a lifelong Lutheran. He had been a member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg and Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. He had various leadership positions in both congregations.
For many years, Rollie and Sybil enjoyed their annual fishing trip to Gold Pines Camp in Ear Falls, Ontario. They also loved having the grandkids visit the farm. Rollie loved light-hearted humor, exchanging gag gifts with his family, and taking care of his many beloved dogs over the years.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sybil; daughter, Lori Roselle of Buffalo Grove; son, Andrew (Melissa) Roselle of Rochester; Sybil’s daughters, Chris (Eric) Detweiler and Sandy (Neil) Sanburg; grandchildren, Curtis and Carl Roselle, Mary and Will Roselle, Katie (Nick Marchionda), Kendall (Brock Portell) and Cam Detweiler, Rain (Cole Westmoreland), Reese and Riley Sanburg; sister, Jeanne (Ron) Johnson of Davenport, Iowa; Sybil’s brother, Judd McAtee along with many beloved nieces and nephews, including their rescue dog, Trish’s second parents, Susan and Steve Bell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Janet Ann (Bill) Eiker; niece, Leanne Eiker Montgomery.
