Robert A. Thompson

Robert A. Thompson, age 89, of New Windsor, IL passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at home. Cremation rites have been accorded.  A private graveside service will be at the New Windsor (Petrie) Cemetery at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be left to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at petersonwallinknox.com.

Bob was born August 6, 1934 in North Henderson, IL to Robert and Dorothy Peterson Thompson.  He attended the local schools and married Kay Frances Leafgreen July 5, 1953 in Rio, IL.

He worked as a farmer, coal miner and painter until becoming an Over the Road Truck Driver, teaming up with his wife, hauling heavy equipment throughout the United States and Canada.  He retired in 2007.

He was a former member of the Rio Presbyterian Church and a current member of the Calvary Lutheran church in New Windsor, IL.

He enjoyed woodworking fishing and boating but especially loved trucking.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; children, Melissa (Jeff) Enloe of New Windsor, IL, Robert Jr. “Tom” (Julie) Thompson of New Windsor, IL, Tony Thompson of Woodhull, IL; 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; a sister Darlene (Leo) Swanson of Sunnyhill, FL; 2 brothers Russell (Joyce) Thompson of Ulah, IL, Roger Thompson of Austin, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; 2 grandsons; 1 sister; and 4 brothers preceded him in death.
