Richard L. Hogan, age 75, of Aledo, IL, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. Services are 11 AM Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Reynolds Cemetery where graveside Military Services will be conducted. Visitation is from 4-7 PM Monday at Fippinger's. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family or the Mercer County Music Department where a scholarship fund in his name will be established. He was born May 19, 1936 in Moline, IL to Howard C. and Inga L. LaRue Hogan. He graduated from Rock Island High School and received his B.S. and Master's Degree in music education from Western Illinois University. He never married and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1958-1961 in the U.S. Army band.
After receiving his master's degree, he began his career as a band teacher in Fairview, IL. In 1967, he came to the Aledo Community School District # 201 where he taught band to the country schools, sixth grade, junior high and high school students. Mr. Hogan was the first teacher at Aledo with a Masters Degree and his love of band was evident to all of his students. He was instrumental in the creation of the "Marching 100," the Pom Pom Squad and the Drum Major.
Richard was a member of the, Trio Masonic Lodge No. 57, the Moline Consistory, Zal Grotto, Mohammad Shrine, Mercer County VFW Post 1571 and the Oakview Country Club. He was a die hard Cubs fan.
He is survived by one brother: James Hogan of Rock Island, IL and a sister-in-law Elayne Hogan of East Moline, IL; special family: Russ, Renee, Brittany, Heather and Tyler; and his faithful dog, Charlie.
His parents, one brother William and one niece: Marcia preceded him in death.
