Paul G. Riley, 92 of Aledo, formerly of Monticello, Illinois, died Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Genesis Senior Living in Aledo. Cremation has been accorded. Memorial Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Aledo. Burial is 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 in the Monticello Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where memorials may be left to the Aledo United Methodist Church or the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. He was born April 11, 1924 in Madison, IN, a son of Charles and Alice Gates Riley. He graduated from Monticello High School and married Maxine Gibbs March 17, 1946 in Monticello. She was the love of his life.

Paul was a U.S. Navy Seabees Veteran of World War II. One of the highlights of Paul’s life was going on the QC Honor Flight in 2010 with daughter Mary.

He was employed as a Storekeeper at the University of Illinois retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Aledo United Methodist Church and the Mercer County YMCA. Paul loved playing and watching all sports. He was an avid Illini and Chicago Bulls fan. He was a competitive tennis player, having won the Monticello City Tennis Tournament several times. Paul loved watching television, especially old westerns and news shows.

Paul made friends everywhere he went. He was genuinely interested in others’ lives.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Aledo; a daughter; Mary (Paul) Flint of Aledo, a son; Gary Riley (Jeff Grosvenor) of Rancho Mirage, CA; 1 granddaughter; Karen (Neil) Dahlstrom of Moline; and one great grandson, Grant Riley Dahlstrom; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 half brothers.
