Nancy J. Simkins, Galesburg, Illinois died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in her home. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Galesburg. Private burial will be in the Alpha Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 PM Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha, Illinois where memorials may be left to the First Christian Church or the Friends of Knox County Child Advocacy Board. She was born April 3, 1945 in Galesburg to Owen and Dorothy Steffen Carlson. She graduated from Alexis High School and received her associate's degree in accounting from Carl Sandburg College. Nancy was employed for 23 years at Galesburg Sanitary District, retiring in 2011.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Galesburg where she was active in vacation bible school, nursery duty and the Wednesday ladies bible study. Nancy served as treasurer and member of the Board of Directors at Friends of Knox County Child Advocacy Center and she volunteered at Cottage Hospital. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Paula (Scott) Maxwell of Edwardsville, IL; Marinda (Michael) Mason of Delavan, IL; 1, son Rick Orwig of Glen Carbon, IL; 4 grandchildren, Chelsea, Marissa, Gavin, and Damien; 3 sisters, Marilyn (Van) Huffman and Betty Golden both of Pinedale, Wyoming; Mary (Bob) Shull of Rio, IL, 1 brother, Paul (Sadie) Carlson of New Windsor, Il; several nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death.
