Mildred Johnson

June 13, 1919 — July 21, 2015

Mildred E. Johnson, 96, of Seminary Estates, Galesburg, formerly of Alpha, IL, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem. Burial is in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Memorials may be left to Ophiem Grace Lutheran Cemetery or Oxford Township Fire Department. Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

She was born June 13, 1919 in Cambridge, IL to Fred T. and Bessie (Thorp) Johnson. She graduated from Cambridge High School. On September 7, 1940, she married M. Laverne Johnson in Andover, IL. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Mildred was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and WELCA, having served as Sunday School teacher for several years.

She enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband.

Survivors include one son: Mahlon (Rhea) Johnson of New Windsor, one son-in-law, Dr. James Kepner of Normal, 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one sister, Elaine Nimrick of Woodhull, and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Barbara Kepner, one great grandson, Jason, four brothers and one sister.
