Michael L. O'Flaherty, 86, of Alpha, Illinois died Thursday July 21, 2016 in his home. Graveside Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 27, 2016 at the New Windsor Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted. There is no visitation. Memorials in his name may be sent to the National Rifle Association. He was born May 17, 1930 in Peoria, Illinoisto Robert and Rachel Whimpey Fleharty. He graduated from the Oxford Township High school in Alpha in 1948. He graduated from Bradley University in Peoria with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Michael was a U. S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War serving in Radar Maintenance and traveled extensively throughout North Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
He married Maria Holder and later married Karen Johnson in Peoria, Illinois.
Michael retired from Caterpillar in Peoria and for many years was a Soccer Referee both on the State level and as a National Assessor. He was a member of the NRA and was an avid photographer.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen O'Flaherty of Seattle, WA, 3 sons, Kevin (Mary) O'Flaherty of Milford, CT, Kyle (Denise) O'Flaherty of Sycamore, IL, Keenan (Maria) O'Flaherty of Sunnyvale, CA, 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and a sister preceded him in death.
