Maybelle Thurman

Maybelle Ada Thurman, 96 of New Windsor, IL passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at Genesis Senior Living in Aledo. Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday May 24, 2018 at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. Private burial will be at a later date in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church where memorials may be left to Calvary Lutheran Church to be used for Youth Programs. She was born December 6, 1921 in Rio to Wallace and Ada Johnson Anderson. Maybelle graduated from Alpha High School. She married Dale C. Thurman October 4, 1939 in Missouri. He died in 1966.

Following Dale’s death, she graduated from the LPN Nursing Program at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. She was employed for 20 years as a charge nurse at the former Oak Glen Home in Coal Valley.

Her memberships include Calvary Lutheran Church, WELCA and the FernMar Society.
Maybelle enjoyed sewing and helping with church activities. After retirement, she enjoyed her great grandchildren’s birthday parties, board games and attending their school activities. Maybelle enjoyed traveling and bus trips with friends and family.

Survivors include her daughter: JoAnn (John) Knox of Geneseo; two sons: Larry Thurman of New Windsor; Stephen Thurman of Maui, HI; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister: Marilyn Rydberg of East Moline; five brothers: Dean Anderson of Rock Island; Paul Anderson of Denver, CO; Richard (Alma) Anderson of California; John (Pat) Anderson of Coal Valley; James (Ann) Anderson of Chicago; several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; husband; one sister: Lucille; one brother: Willis and two daughters-in-law: Rita and Callie preceded her in death.
