Mary "Joanne" Stubbs, 84, of New Boston, IL, died Friday, July 6, 2012 at Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo. Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at United Methodist Church in Joy. Burial is in the Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 PM Monday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Memorials may be left to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Alzheimer's Association. She was born May 18, 1928 in Joy, IL to Omer and Jewell Warren Deeds. She graduated from Joy High School and married Harley D. Stubbs July 16, 1950 at the Joy United Methodist Church. He died March 7, 1979.

Joanne was employed as a secretary at the Joy High School following graduation. After marriage, she was a homemaker and in 1967 she returned to the Westmer School District as high school secretary and retired in 1993 as secretary for the Westmer Superintendent of Schools.

She was a member of the Joy United Methodist Church, having been a charter member of the church choir and sang for over 50 years. She taught piano lessons for several years. She was active in the Quilter's Guild and enjoyed sewing and playing cards in area card clubs.

Survivors include one daughter: Julie (Scot) Doxstader of Orion, IL; one son: Roger Douglas Stubbs of New Boston, IL and his fiancé: Anita Braucht of Aledo; 3 grandchildren: Kyle, Eric and Brian Doxstader; two nieces: Susan Brokaw, Kathy Yadon and one nephew: Jerry Stubbs.

Her parents, husband; one son: Danny Kevin; and one brother: Omer Deeds Jr. preceded her in death.
