LeRoy Hollar

LeRoy E. Hollar, 78, of Cambridge, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Services are at 1:00 pm Monday, July 27, 2015, at Petersona��Wallina��Knox Funeral Home in Alpha, IL. Burial is in the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL, where graveside military rites will be conducted. Visitation is from 3a��5 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the George Norris American Legion in New Windsor, IL, the Fort Armstrong Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) or the St. Jude Run. LeRoy was born on June 9, 1937, in York County, Pennsylvania, to Charles E. Jr. and Charlotte F. (Millhouse) Hollar. He graduated with the first graduating class of Donegal High School in 1955. He received an appointment to the US Merchant Marine Academy in 1955 and completed his required military obligation at the US Navy in 1957. He enlisted in the US Army the same year and completed his Army service in 1967. He was active in the US Army National Guard in Nebraska from 1970a��78, then he
transferred to the US Army National Guard in Illinois, where he retired from the US Military after over 20 years of service.

He married Joyce E. Robertson on June 15, 1961, in Prairie Home, Nebraska.

LeRoy was appointed US Postmaster in Alvo, NE, in 1967. After completion of his military service in 1978, he became a linea��haul truck driver, and worked for Roadway Express for 30 years before retirement.

He was a member of the George Norris American Legion Post #484, the Mercer County VFW and the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

LeRoy was an avid collector, starting with Anheusera��Busch beer mugs and steins, and moving on to restoring and collecting metal toy trucks and most recently cast iron implement seats. He also spent a lot of time and care to restore several 2a��cylinder John Deere tractors and attended a lot of tractor shows. His most recent hobby was caring for and showing his fullya��restored 1954 Chevy Pickup truck, which he drove to all the local car shows.

LeRoy is a survived by his wife, Joyce Elaine of Cambridge, IL; three daughters, Morgan "Marti" (Tom) Ryan of New Windsor, IL, Stephanie (Wesley) Graf of Golden, CO, Heidi (Craig) Allaman of Monmouth, IL; 9 grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler, Megan and Ashleigh Ryan, Kellan and Hadley Graf, Andrew, Ian and Elaina Allaman; 9 great grandchildren with one lovingly expected; three brothers, Lamar (Nancy) Hollar of Chambersburg, PA, James (Helen) Hepfer of Chambersburg, PA, and Robert (Patty) Hollar of Baltimore, MD, one sister Margery (David) Keller of Gardners, PA, one stepa��mother Margaret "Peg" Hollar of Cantonville, MD, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Tawnia Lynne Hollar, and two sisters, Billie and
Jean.
