LaVota B. Armstrong

LaVota B. Armstrong, 94, of Keithsburg, Illinois, died Monday, August 22, 2022 at Mercer Manor in Aledo.  Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Keithsburg First Christian Church.  Graveside services will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Keithsburg First Christian Church.  Fippinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.fippingerfuenralhome.com.

LaVota was born June 7, 1928 between Seaton and Keithsburg, Illinois to William and Mamie Reitman Waugh. She graduated from Aledo High School in 1946.  LaVota married Rex Armstrong on May 1, 1948 in Aledo, Illinois.  He died October 3, 1979.

She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of the Joy Service Station.  For over 35 years, she was a church organist at the New Boston United Methodist Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keithsburg.  LaVota taught the organ for many years and played for funerals and weddings throughout the Westmer area. 

LaVota was a member of the Keithsburg First Christian Church.  She enjoyed making stationary, walking, reading and especially being with her family.

Survivors include her four sons, Royce (Linda) Armstrong of Lucedale, Mississippi; Donald Armstrong of Honolulu, Hawaii; Jim (Jeannie) Armstrong of Yulee, Florida; Larry (Lori Neally) Armstrong of Muscatine, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; one sister, Iris (Gerald) Paulsen of Aledo, IL; two brothers, Bradley Waugh of Neponset, Illinois; William Waugh of Belvidere, IL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two brothers.
