Larry F. Hyett, 67 of Quincy, IL, formerly of Aledo, IL died Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Cremation has been accorded. Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday March 22, 2019 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Eliza Creek Cemetery. Visitation is 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at Fippinger's where memorials may be left to the American Legion Fallerans Post #121. Larry was born December 19, 1952 in Aledo, IL to Claris (Bud) and Clara Frances Hudson Hyett. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1970 and was appointed to the United States Naval Academy. He graduated from USNA in 1974 with a degree in Naval Architecture. His Senior Project team developed the concept and model for today’s Littoral Combat ships.

His assignments in the Navy included: monitoring foreign submarine operations in the Atlantic and in the Pacific supporting USMC ready-deployment forces. Larry was employed by Ingall’s Shipyards in Pascagoula, MS. His work included rebuilding of the USS Cole and alignment and coordination of fire control systems for the United States and Japanese Navy ships.

Larry enjoyed playing bluegrass and Appalachian flat-picking guitar, fishing and sailing. He was active in MENSA and various local bluegrass music groups.

Survivors include his mother: Frances Banks, Sullivan, IL; brother: Claris E. "Bud" Hyett, Granite Falls, WA; nephew: Jeffrey Hyett and niece: Angela Hyett, Dalton City, IL; nephew: Owen Garnett, Kearney, Nebraska; great-niece: Amanda Hyett, Brookings, SD.
