Kenneth L. Cox, 76, of Eliza, Illinois died Monday, November 25, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center in Aledo. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Eliza Creek Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 PM Friday at Fippinger's. A memorial fund will be established and online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.
Ken was born September 29, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa to Ralph and Elda Hessman Cox. He graduated from Joy High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He married Peggy Bieri July 16, 1961 in Joy, Illinois.
Ken was a packaging engineer at HON Industries in Muscatine for over 40 years, retiring in 2006. He farmed and raised Angus cattle in the Eliza area all of his life with his brother and nephews.
He was a member of the Eliza Community Church; a charter member, past president, past secretary for several years of the Eliza Lions Club. He was a founding member of the Eliza Volunteer Fire Department and served as a trustee for the New Boston/Eliza Fire Protection District. Ken also served as Eliza Township Clerk and was currently one of the Eliza School Land Commissioners. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, bowling and enjoyed participating in the Eliza Lions Memorial Tractor Drive.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; one daughter: Melanie (Ron) Cox Lagerstrom of Peoria, Illinois; one sister: Elaine (Mark) Czerwinski of Moline, Illinois; two brothers: Charles Leroy (Mary Lou) Cox of Eliza, Illinois; Ralph "Red" (Sharon) Cox of West Des Moines, Iowa; several nieces and nephews, including Ryan and Kevin Cox, both of Eliza, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law: Judy Bieri; two nieces: Patrice Cox and Darla Bieri; and a great nephew: Adam Marston.
