June D. French, age 100, of Aledo, Illinois died Friday October 13, 2017 in her home with her family at her side. A private graveside service will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville, IN. A celebration of life will be held on what would have been June’s 101st birthday December 15, 2017 in Aledo at a location to be announced. Memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice. She was born in Evansville, IN. December 15, 1916 to Louis and Clara Medcalf Cook. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1934. She married Eugene Kraft in 1940 with whom she had 4 children. He died in 1959. She married John (Val) French in 1960. He died in 1984.
June worked at Indiana Bell, St Mary’s, Welborn, Western Union, Hamburg’s, Don’s Cleaners, Ohio Valley Sound and So Fro Fabrics. In 1996, she moved to Aledo, IL to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She was an accomplished dress maker and seamstress and continued sewing well into her 90’s.
Survivors include her son, Toby (Cissy) Kraft of Evansville, IN, daughter Dee Kraft Wayne of Aledo, IL, Step-children Jeri (Richard) Barchet and Paula Schaff both of Evansville, IN, grandchildren Michael E. Kraft Jr., Shani (Tom) Moushon, Elizabeth Wayne, Sarah (Matt Holkup) Wayne, Michael (Heather) Wayne, Peggy (Larry) Tinsley and Rebecca Blankenship of Peoria, IL, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and a niece Cynthia Foster of Evansville, IN.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Cook and step-mother Susie Mathews Cook, mother Clara Medcalf Olenick and step-father Abe Olenick, 2 sons Michael and Warren Kraft, step-children Sue Karcher, Linda Fisher and Ricky French, step-sister Genevieve Cook Ruetz, son-in-law Daniel Wayne, daughter-in-law Mariquita Kraft and a niece Kaye Foster Moss.
