Johnny A. Wagner, 96, of Aledo, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family.   Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2023 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo.  Masonic services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo.  The funeral service will directly follow the masonic services also at the funeral home.  Interment will be at the Greenmound Cemetery in Keithsburg where graveside military services will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left to the New Boston United Methodist Church or the Mercer County Animal Shelter. Online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.

Johnny was born  August 14, 1926 in New Boston, Illinois to Clyde J. and Naomi Finch Wagner. He graduated from New Boston High School in 1944.  Johnny served in the U.S. Army from December 1950 to September 1952, where he proudly served his country in Korea.  On June 28, 1952, he married Lois Scull in New Boston, Illinois.

He was a 75-year member of the New Boston Masonic Lodge AF & AM #59, 33rd degree Mason.  Johnny served four years as Master Mason and fifty years as secretary.

Johnny was a lifetime member of the Mercer County VFW Post 1571 and the Aledo American Legion Fallerans #121.

Johnny farmed with his son and brother for many years in the New Boston area. He enjoyed fishing, throwing horseshoes, gardening and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; two daughters, Brenda (David Dixon) Wagner and Diane Dunn, both of Aledo; two grandchildren, Amy (Kyle) Hirsh of San Diego, California; John (Shelly Zachert) Dunn of Aledo; three great grandchildren, Mikayla Dunn; Lyjah Hirsh; Minka Hirsh; one brother, Clyde “Dig” (Leila) Wagner of New Boston; one sister, Patsy Henry of Keithsburg; several nieces and nephews.

His parents and one son, Elmer preceded him in death.
