Helen Jean Morrow, 97, of Aledo, IL, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center in Aledo. Graveside services are 11 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Peniel Cemetery in Joy, IL. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Memorials may be left to the Joy United Methodist Church, Mercer County Senior Center or the Mercer Carnegie Library. Helen Jean was born May 1, 1916, in Joy, Illinois to Merton and Bertha Droll Kistler. She graduated from Joy High School. She married Lester Morrow September 22, 1934 in Aledo. He died October 12, 1997.
She was employed at the Joy Post Office for 17 years, serving as a clerk and then Postmaster from 1970 to 1979. She was a lifetime member of the Joy United Methodist Church, a member of the Golden Links and the former 500 Card Club. Helen Jean enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting and needlework and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include one daughter: Kathleen (Mike) Sponsler of Aledo, IL; three sons: Gary (Larlaine) Morrow of McDonough, GA; Curtis (Mardelle) Morrow of Andalusia, IL; Gregory Morrow of Chicago, IL; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husband; one daughter: Nancy; and one brother: Lyle preceded her in death.
