Helen G. Eckert, age 90, of Aledo died Wednesday March 5, 2014 at Genesis Senior Living in Aledo. Services are 11:00 AM Saturday at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Peniel cemetery, rural Joy, IL. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services Saturday at Fippingers where memorials may be left to the University of Illinois Extension - Mercer County Chapter. She was born May 15, 1923 in Perryton, Illinois to Elias and Myrtle Bonynge Nyberg.
She attended the local schools. On February 25, 1941 she was united in marriage to Victor W. Eckert. He died November 12, 1996.
Helen was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of their family farm. She worked at the former Fortner Shelter and Care in Aledo and the Mercer County Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Mercer County Home Extension and the former Open Bible Church in Aledo. She enjoyed fishing, doing crafts and helping with her children's' 4H Projects.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Anita Neaville of Davenport, IA, Frances Bent of Dunlap, IL, 3 sons, Charles (Carita)Eckert of Joy, IL. Dennis (Lauren) Eckert of Aledo, Kevin Eckert of Canton, IL 10 grandchildren, 25 great Grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, 1 daughter Eula Jean Diehl, 1 sister Mildred Johnson and a brother Kenneth Nyberg preceded her in death.
