Helen Armstrong

Helen L. Armstrong, age 88, of Viola, IL, died Sunday, December 9, 2012 peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral Services are 11 a.m., Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Fippinger Funeral Home. Burial is in the Peniel Cemetery in Joy. Visitation is 4-6 p.m., Friday at Fippinger's. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and online condolences may be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.

She was born September 13, 1924 in Pittsfield, IL to Roy and Frances Gaylor Hays. She attended Pin Oak County School in New Boston and married R. Keith Armstrong January 19, 1943 in Aledo, IL.

Helen was a homemaker and assisted in the operation of the family farm.

She was a member of the Viola United Presbyterian Church, The Garden Club in Aledo and Eastern Iowa Antique Tractor Pullers. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was a great cook and enjoyed helping people.

Helen is survived by her husband: Keith; two daughters: Pat McCaw of Springfield, IL and Vickie (Frank) Mann of upstate New York; one son: Keith (Jennifer) Armstrong of Kannapolis, NC; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; Donna Armstrong of Aledo, IL; one sister: Frances Huber of Aledo, IL; three brothers: Clinton Hays of Viola, IL; Raymond (Elaine) Hays of Alexis, IL; Leslie Hays of Monmouth, IL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son: Robert; one grandson; two great grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
