Gilbert J. Dobbels, 80, of Woodhull, IL, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Geneseo, IL. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church in Woodhull. Burial is in St. John's Cemetery where Graveside Military Services will be conducted. Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be left to the Hillcrest Nursing Home or St. John's Catholic Church and online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

He was born September 14, 1932 in Cambridge, IL to Alfred and Mary Helen Buyck Dobbels. He graduated from Cambridge High School. Gilbert married Ann Knueppel October 30, 1963.

Gilbert was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Hawaii. He worked briefly as a welder for John Deere and farmed in the Woodhull area over fifty years. He enjoyed the rodeo.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Henry County Farm Bureau and NRA.

He is survived by three sons: Kippy Dobbels of West Palm Beach, FL; Gilbert D. (Tina) Dobbels of Lincoln, IL; Ronald (Sandra) Dobbels of Woodhull, IL; three grandchildren: Marissa, Veronica and Ronald; one sister: Joan Morris of Kewanee, IL; five brothers: Robert (Donna) Dobbels; Alvin (Joyce) Dobbels; James (Carol) Dobbels; David (Debbie) Dobbels; Don (Kathy) Dobbels, all of Cambridge, IL; one sister-in-law: Leona Dobbels; one aunt: Mary Ann Schuter, both of Geneseo, IL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother: Alfred.
