Gerald L. Shannon, 69, of Woodhull, IL, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria. Cremation has been accorded. Services are 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Harvest Bible Chapel in Woodhull. Private burial will be at a later date. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. prior to services. Memorials may be left to the family and online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.
He was born November 13, 1943 in Galesburg, IL to Vernon and Velma Hazelwood Shannon. He attended Millersburg and Alpha Schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Gerald married Ruby Neer December 27, 1966 in Alpha, IL. She died in 1990. He married Nancy Young November 23, 1990 in New Boston, IL.
Gerald was employed as a custodian for the AlWood School District and most recently was maintenance supervisor at the Henry County Courthouse, retiring in 2011.
He was a faithful member of Harvest Bible Chapel in Woodhull. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, his dogs and could fix almost anything.
Survivors include his wife: Nancy; his children: Jim (Paula) Shannon of Alpha, IL; Pat (Charlotte) Shannon of Broken Arrow, OK; Loretta (Steve) Swed of Paw Paw, IL; Larry Heady; Linda Heady; David (Heather) Heady; Charlotte Campbell, all of Woodhull, IL; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and one lovingly expected; two brothers: Michael (Judy) Shannon of Geneseo, IL; Billy (Wendy) Koeppel of Dewitt, IA; four sisters: Vicky (Tim) Thompson; Kay (Larry) Showens; Linda (Mike) Martin; Myrene Burton, all of Davenport, IA; several nieces and nephews.
His parents; wife: Ruby; and one brother preceded him in death.
