Gary R. Neuleib, 75, of New Windsor, Illinois passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. The funeral service will be Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church. Interment will be at the New Windsor “Petrie” Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to the Erin Neuleib Memorial 4-H Horse Scholarship Fund or Calvary Lutheran Church.
Gary was born September 28, 1947 in Geneseo, Illinois the son of Sherman and Marjorie Wiese Neuleib. After graduating Geneseo High School, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam from September of 1966 to January of 1969. He married Sandra K. Joneson on March 27, 1976. She passed on September 12, 2021.
Gary was an over-the-road truck driver for many years, driving with Sprout Trucking and Dohrn Transfer Company. He spent the majority of his time with Dohrn and retired from there. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Viola American Legion, Tri-City Trail Riders, Edwards River Antique Engine Association, and the Geneseo Antique Engine and Tractor Association. He was a trail boss on the Illinois State Stock Horse Association’s 100 Mile Trail Ride for many years, where he met his wife. He was an avid Lionel train and two-cylinder John Deere tractor collector.
He is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Andy) Zimmerman of New Windsor; granddaughter Nora Zimmerman; cousins, Deb (Scott) Hawkins of Elmhurst, Rodger (Stephanie) Rickman of Geneseo, Paul Zima of Geneseo and Louis Zima of Geneseo. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and daughter, Erin Neuleib.
