Fred D. Rooth, 84 of Joy, IL died Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Genesis Senior Living in Aledo. Services are 10:00 AM Friday July 13, 2018 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Eliza Creek Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday July 12, 2018 at Fippinger's where Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be left to Fur-Ever Friends or the Wounded Warrior Project. He was born April 19, 1934 in Joy, IL to Glenn and Helen Baker Rooth. He graduated from Joy High School. On June 15, 1957, he married Harriet "Arlene" Willits in Joy, IL. She died November 3, 2008.

Fred was a U.S. Army veteran and farmed his entire life in the Joy area.

He was a member of Joy United Methodist Church, Oak View Country Club, New Boston Masonic Lodge #59 and the Mercer County VFW Post 1571.

Fred was very active in Republican politics. He was appointed by the president of the United States to serve on the draft board for the Vietnam War. He was a former chairman of the Mercer County Republican Central Committee. For 25 years he served on the Henderson, Mercer and Warren Regional Board of School Trustees resigning in 2011 after being elected to serve on the Mercer County Board representing District 4.

Survivors include his daughter: Sara Rooth and Jeff Dearinger of Chapel Hill, NC; several dear nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the country and his beloved dog, Foxy Lady. His parents, wife and his favorite dog “Andy” preceded him in death.
