Fred P. DuVerney, age 92, of Aledo, Il, formerly of Cambridge, MA died Wednesday May 16, 2012 at the Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM Monday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Aledo. Burial is in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal where graveside Military Services will be conducted. Visitation is from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Monday prior to services at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Memorials may be left to the Alzheimer's Association and online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com

He was born August 2, 1919 in Bettendorf, IA to Alfred and Delfina Moralez DuVerney. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Bettendorf, Iowa and married Marion Grynkiewicz June 27, 1953. She died October 22, 1990.

He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1955 and worked for the Boston Ship Yard for over 10 years. After retirement, he was employed by the Cambridge school system as a custodian for many years.

He is survived by a step-son James Brady and 2 step-grandsons James and Robert Brady all of Cambridge, MA, 2 step great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Dena DuVerney of Aledo and several nieces and nephews including Jodene Huntley, Tina Lee, Michelle McCaw and Joe DuVerney all of Aledo, Mary Finch of LaSalle, IL, Therese Clark and Pat Brenner both of Hendersonville, N.C. Priscilla Reynolds and Charles Barretto both of CA, Rosemary Stanley of Chicago, Susan Boatman of Indiana, Mark Barretto of New Jersey David Barretto of Kentucky, Carlos Barretto of Moline, Il. Gary Brown of Chicago and Tom Brown of San Diego

His parents, wife, 4 sisters, 1 brother, and 2 nephews preceded him in death.
