Dorothy M. Hammerlund, 95, of Woodhull, Illinois died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Courtyard Estates in Galva. Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Burial is in the Woodhull Cemetery. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Friday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Memorials may be left to Bethany Lutheran Church, Woodhull Cemetery Association or Clover Township Library. She was born September 18, 1920 in rural Woodhull, IL to Henry and Verna Swanson Hanson. On June 4, 1942, she was united in marriage to Robert T. Hammerlund in her parents' home in rural Woodhull. He died December 9, 2001.
Dorothy was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of the Kirkland farm for over 50 years.
She was a life member of Bethany Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was a member of the WCTU in Woodhull and the treasurer at the time of the construction of the Clover Township Library which was built by the organization and given to the community.
She enjoyed quilting each Tuesday morning with her friends at Bethany and each Wednesday afternoon with her friends at United Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Verna (Robert) Bergstrom of Alpha, IL; Jean (Philip) Whiting of Libertyville, IL; one son, James (Christine) Hammerlund of Antioch, IL; grandchildren and great grandchildren Inger (Rich Fetch) Krieg of Ballwin, MO; Marissa of House Springs, MO; James (Sandi) Hammerlund of Chandler, AZ; Andrea Bergstrom of Champaign, IL; Leslie (Bivan) Kischer and Rowan, Claire, Jude and Scarlett of Highland Park, IL; Erik (Lisa) Bergstrom, Mia and Tessa of Elm Grove, WI; Patrick (Rebekah) Hammerlund, Quinn, Matthew and Dagem of Fox Point, WI; Jennifer (Jon) Cook and Madelyn and William of Iowa City, Iowa; Daniel (Sara) Whiting of Columbia, MO; cousin, Laverne Hanson of Alpha; nephews, John Hanson of Ingleside, IL; Ronald (Betty) Johnson of Decatur, AL.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Barbara, one brother, one sister, one niece and two nephews.
