Donald Wadhams

February 20, 1939 — December 19, 2017

Donald E. Wadhams, 78 of New Windsor, IL died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at home. Cremation has been accorded and memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at the United Presbyterian Church in New Windsor. Private burial will be prior to services in the New Windsor Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at the United Presbyterian Church luncheon after the service. Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Rivoli Township Fire District Building Fund, New Windsor Presbyterian Church Improvement Fund, Henderson Grove Cemetery Association or the Edwards River Antique Engine Association. He was born February 20, 1939 at home in Knox County, IL to Harry and Emma Carlson Wadhams. He graduated from Winola High School in 1957. He married Bonnie J. Brooks April 9, 1961 in the New Windsor Presbyterian Church.
In addition to farming, Donald was employed at DeForest Feed and Seed in Galesburg, the Rivoli Grain Co. in New Windsor and the Alpha FS. He retired in 2012 from The Grain Store, in New Windsor.

He was a former member of Calvary Lutheran Church and United Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. He was currently a member of the New Windsor Presbyterian Church, where he served as trustee and elder. Donald served as trustee for the Richland Grove Township, Rivoli Township Fire District and Cozy Haven Homes. He was a member of the Edwards River Antique Tractor Association and the Mercer County Farm Bureau for over 50 years.

Donald enjoyed restoring tractors, attending tractor shows and antique auctions and especially spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; one daughter: Lori (Richard) Nelson of Springfield, IL; two sons: Timothy Wadhams and Terry Wadhams, both of Tucson, AZ; one grandson: Zach Nelson of Springfield, IL; three sisters: Marion (Claude) Reffett of Altona, IL; Harriett (Leland) Peterson of Woodhull, IL; Beverly (Gary) Cook of Grinnell, Iowa; one brother: Bill (Twila) Wadhams of Danville, IL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Melvin, Russell and LaVerne; and one sister: Ellen.
