Dinah L. Burton, 69, of Alpha, IL, died Friday, August 9, 2013 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. Services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Galesburg. Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Monday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where memorials may be left to Black Fox Drum. Burial is in the Alpha Cemetery. She was born July 31, 1944 in Macomb, IL, a daughter of Lewis and Evelyn Norris Phillips. She graduated from Macomb High School in 1962. She married John Burton in December 1964. He preceded her in death in 2010.
Dinah was a secretary at AlWood High School for almost 30 years, retiring in 2006. She was a very active member of the First Christian Church in Galesburg, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of the Black Fox Native American Drum Group in Abingdon. For nearly 20 years, she bought Christmas presents for every resident of St. Mary's Square in Galesburg where she was known as the "Christmas Lady". She enjoyed her grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter: Julia (John) Buzard of Geneseo, IL; 3 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Emily and Sarah, all of Geneseo; two brothers; Daryl and Dennis Phillips, both of Macomb, IL; one sister-in-law: Barb Phillips of Columbia, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother: Dan Phillips.
