Darrell Johnson

June 13, 1949 — September 28, 2017

Darrell D. "Soupy" Johnson, 68 of Woodhull, IL died Thursday September 28, 2017 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Galesburg. Cremation has been accorded. Memorial services are 6:00 PM Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Alpha American Legion Post 1197. He was born June 13, 1949 in Rock Island, IL to William “Lyle” and Victoria Callow Johnson. He graduated from AlWood High School in 1967. In 1973, he married Barbara Seaton in Knoxville, IL.

Darrell was a U.S. Army veteran.

Darrell was employed as a machinist at John Deere Harvester, retiring after 30 years. He owned and operated Soupy’s Bar in Woodhull for many years.

He was a member of the Alpha American Legion Post 1197.
Darrell enjoyed golfing, fishing and attending Nascar events.

Survivors include two daughters: Paula (Patrick) Shumaker of Sellersburg, Indiana; Rhonda (Steve Miller) Ryan of Galesburg, IL; one son: William Johnson of Galesburg, IL; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; siblings: Kris (Lynn) Pease of Alexis, IL; Linda Gordon, Randy (Mary) Vanover, all of Port Angeles, WA; Virginia (Donny) Lentz of Lineville, Iowa; Mike Johnson of Belleville, IL; Virgil (Betty) Dueysen, Terry (Debbie) Schneider, Jeff Schneider, all of East Moline, IL; Rick (Tammy) Schneider of Colona, IL; sister-in-law, Brenda Vanover of Freeburg, IL; several nieces and nephews.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents: Lyle, Edith and Victoria; one sister, Mary Orendorff and one brother, Rick Vanover.
