Darlene A. Erickson, 84, of Aledo, IL. formerly of the Quad Cities, died Friday October 12, 2012 at Aledo Rehab and Health Care Center. Graveside services are 11:00 AM Thursday October 18, 2012 at the Oakridge Cemetery Millersburg, IL. There is no visitation. A memorial fund will be established. Arrangements were entrusted to Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com
She was born October 3, 1928 in Millersburg to Fred and Ivy Kerch Mitchell. She graduated from Aledo High School, received her Bachelors Degree from Marycrest College and her Masters in Education from WIU. She married Robert L. Downs and later married Donald Erickson.
Darlene taught school in Mercer County, at Doxsee School in Milan where she was Principal and Ericsson School in Moline retiring in 1985 after 32 years of teaching. She was a very devout Christian throughout her life.
Her son Robert F. Downs of Monmouth, IL and 2 grandsons Michael Downs of Macomb and Bobby Downs of Monmouth survive.
Her husband Don, 2 sisters, Ethel Johnson and Phyllis Morrow and 4 brothers, John, Fred, Lloyd and Loren Mitchell preceded her in death.
