Curtis D. Whitehall, age 91, formerly of Aledo, Il. passed February 4, 2023, at Autumn Leaves in St. Charles, IL. Masonic services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Fippinger Funeral Home, followed by a private family graveside burial at Greenmound Cemetery in Keithsburg.
Curtis was born March 18, 1931 in Keithsburg, Illinois to Roy and Hazel (McNall) Whitehall. He graduated from Keithsburg High School in 1949. Was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Curtis married Berniece Willmering February 13, 1954 in Keithsburg. She passed on February 5, 1998.
He had several short term jobs before being employed by the Corp. of Engineers at Lock & Dam. He worked at Lock #16 in Muscatine, Iowa and as assistant lockmaster for Lock & Dam #17 in New Boston, IL, and retired in 1993, after 32 years of service.
He was a member of the Aledo United Methodist Church and New Windsor Presbyterian Church. Other memberships include the Aledo Masonic Lodge #252 AF&AM, Mercer County VFW Post 1571, Aledo and New Windsor American Legions, Aledo Exchange Club. He was active in all these civic organizations and enjoyed the camaraderie.
Curt loved spending time with his grandchildren, wintering in St. Petersburg, Fl., golfing and being with his family and friends. He was friendly to everyone, always had a pleasant word to say, and willing to help family and friends anytime. He was always ready to do odd jobs for his children.
Curt leaves behind one daughter, Cynthia Whitehall of Aurora, Il.; one son, Alan (Mary Ann) Whitehall of Evanston, IL.; two grandchildren, Emma (Trevor) Forde and Andrew (Julia) Whitehall.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Berniece, and 5 sisters and 4 brothers.
