Clark W. "Dod" Giles Jr., 77, of Joy, went to eternal peace at his home on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
Masonic services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, followed by a brief Celebration of Life service at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday before services at Fippinger's, where memorials may be left to the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 679 or the AMT Ambulance Service. He was born on March 8, 1936, in New Boston Township, the fourth child of Clark and Ablonda Jackson Giles. He graduated from New Boston High School and married Marlene Hays on April 20, 1958, in the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church.
Dod farmed the Hays family farm all of his life, retiring in 2005. He loved to dance and play cards, especially solitaire, and he enjoyed fishing, camping, John Wayne classics, reading the comics and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 679. Other memberships included the Moline Consistory, the Shriners and Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as past worthy patron.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene; three sons, Rodney Giles, Galena, Ill., Dean Giles, Chandler, Ariz., and Shannon Giles, Peoria, Ariz.; special friends, Allison Giles; and her sons, Zach and Aaron, all of Avondale, Ariz., Beth Ernster, East Dubuque, Ill.; three sisters, Lois (Duane) Schultz, Rock Island, Bonnie Louck, New Boston, Judy (Roger) McCreight, Aledo; three brothers, James (Luella) Giles, New Boston, Casey Giles, Rock Island, and Tony (Connie) Giles, Muscatine; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents; brother-in-law, Wayne Louck; and special friend, Bob Dedoncker, preceded him in death.
