Charles W. Newswander, age 82 of Aledo, Illinois died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Genesis Senior Living in Aledo. Services are 10:00 AM Monday at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Reynolds Cemetery where graveside military services will be conducted. Visitation is from 4-7 PM Sunday at Fippinger's where a memorial fund will be established. He was born October 19, 1931 in rural Aledo to Will and Alice Sproston Newswander. Charlie attended the local schools. On October 18, 1953 he was united in marriage to Freda A. Rursch at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Aledo.
Charles was a 55 year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local # 25 in Rock Island, IL. retiring in 1989. After retirement, he had a passion for gardening and he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities. He was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed following the Aledo Green Dragons and in his earlier days he loved to hunt and fish.
His memberships include the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Mercer County VFW Post 1571 and the American Legion Fallerans Post 121.
Survivors include his wife, Freda, 2 daughters, Peggy (Marvin) Weiss of Taylor Ridge, Il, Nancy Newswander of Davenport, Ia, 2 sons, Rick (Kathy) Newswander of Aledo, Il, Gary (Diane) Newswander of Metamora, Il, 6 grandchildren, Amy and Nathan Weiss, Ryan (Tiffany) Newswander, Hayley (Travis) Tiffin, Gina (Nick) Swanson, Gretchen Newswander, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His parent, 1 grandson, Justin, 1 brother, Joe and 4 sisters, Annabel, Grace, Dellagene and Mary preceded him in death.
