Carolyn L. Russell, age 69, of New Boston, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at her home. Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the New Boston United Methodist Church. Burial is in the New Boston Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Friday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where memorials may be left to the New Boston Community Center or the New Boston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department. She was born in Muscatine, IA on May 27, 1943 to Carl and Marie Cooley Nelson. She attended the New Boston schools, received her GED in 1990 and attended AIC in Davenport, IA where she received her degree as a legal secretary. She married Michael Russell, Sr. April 12, 1969 in New Boston, IL. He died in 1999.
Carolyn was a homemaker, a cook at the New Boston restaurants and was employed at the Ordinance Plant in Burlington. She was a member of the Assembly of God, former softball and basketball coach, former Cub Scouts leader and Vacation Bible School teacher. She enjoyed social networking, bowling and playing cards. She especially enjoyed her family and was very proud of her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters: Jamie (Jeff) Paul of New Boston, IL; Tina (Dan) Frieden of Joy, IL; two sons: Mike (Natalie Doss) Russell, Jr. of Joy, IL; Howard Russell of New Boston, IL; grandchildren: Jayde; Jayson; Jeffrey; Mandi; Savanah; Madison; Jake; Michelle; Mikey; David; Quintin; Tiffany; two great grandchildren: Anthony and Hayden; one sister: Violet Malcom of Keithsburg, IL; four brothers: Jim and Gerald Nelson, both of Keithsburg, IL; Doug (Nancy) Nelson and Ronny (Pam) Nelson, both of New Boston; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother and a nephew.
