Barbara J. Guild, 80, of Alpha, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 9 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice in Bettendorf. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services are 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Saturday, prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials in her in name may be left to the Tri-County Ambulance Service or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice and online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.
She was born March 6, 1934 in Galesburg, IL to John and Minnie Gambo Castagnoli. She attended the Alpha and AlWood Schools. Barbara married Leonard Guild October 8, 1953 in Moline, IL.
Barbara was a homemaker and worked as a florist in Alpha for several years. She was later employed as a cook in the Alwood Elementary School and retired from Farmers State Bank where she did janitorial work until 1992.
She was a member of the Cresent Lake Club and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cooking. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived her husband, Leonard; one daughter; Tina (Joe) Whalen of Crawfordsville, IA, 2 sons; John (Linda) Guild of Cambridge, IL, Michael (Kathi) Guild of Altoona, IA 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 sister; Rena Ennis of Whittier, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Albert, Edward and Tony.
