Arthur Carl Brahmstedt Jr., 90, of Ophiem, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. Visitation is 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. The Funeral Service will directly follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Ophiem. Memorials may be made to the Oxford American Legion Post 1197. Art was born October 27, 1932 in rural Alexis, Illinois to Arthur and Ella Algren Brahmstedt Sr. He married Norma Jean Riley October 20, 1962, in Galesburg, Illinois. She passed away November 15, 2013.
Art served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for J.I. Case in Bettendorf for many years. Art also farmed in the Ophiem area. His memberships included Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem and the Oxford American Legion Post 1197.
He enjoyed mowing and visiting Bishop Hill.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Don McLaughlin) Meirhaeghe of Sherrard, Illinois; Sara Brahmstedt of Galesburg, Illinois; one son, Carl G. Brahmstedt of Denver, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, Lori, David, Nikki, Chelsey, Ryan, Lainey, Brandy, Cierra, O'Brion and Tre'Anna; 16 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Stella Brahmstedt; wife, one son, Richard; one sister, Ruth Sandburg; two brothers, Pete and Glen Brahmstedt.
