Alta M. Holmes Bushong, 96, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Woodhull, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2013 in Tucson. Funeral services will be Noon Saturday April 13, 2013 at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Burial is in the Woodhull Cemetery. Visitation is from 11:00 AM until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to your favorite charity. Alta was born August 31, 1916 in Galesburg to Walter and Jennie Terpening Brown. She married Karl "Kully" F. Holmes November 29, 1938 in Davenport, Ia. He died in 1985. She later married Jack Bushong in 2008.
Alta and Kully owned and operated " The Corner Store" in Woodhull for many years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Galesburg Moose Lodge #880. She enjoyed quilting, bowling and dancing.
She is survived by her daughter Janet (Mohamed) Khan of Marana, AZ, 5 grandchildren, Jeff (Debi) Recher of Mission Viego, CA, Kathy (Rob) King of Tempe, AZ, Mike Recher of Tucson, AZ, Gina (Bill) Swecker of Tucson, AZ, Heather (Alain) Khan of Kinshasha, DRC. 5 great grandchildren, Patrick and Andy McPherran, Brandon Recher and Tori and Ryan Swecker and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, 7 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death.
