Lulu L. (Murphy) Ayers

April 14, 1918 ~ June 18, 2018 (age 100)

Lulu L. "Lou" Ayers, 100 of New Boston, IL left this world for the next on Monday, June 18, 2018 surrounded by her family at Genesis Medical Center in Aledo. Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Viola Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at Fippinger's where memorials may be left to the Mercer County VFW Post 1571. She spent her 100 years and 65 days (she would want credit for the full amount) nurturing the ones she loved. Lou was born April 14, 1918 to William and Eunice Murphy. She spent the majority of her life in the Mercer County area where she met and married her husband Emery Ayers on June 20, 1936. The two loved to travel and celebrated 64 years of marriage before Emery’s death in 2000.

Lou was fond of the outdoors and a true equestrian. Her appreciation of animals went well beyond her horses. If there was a creature in need, Lou would rescue it and nurse it back to health. The list of those who benefited from her vet like skills would fill pages. Wolfy, her most recent rescue preceded her in death by 8 days.

Working in the yard was a favorite pass time, an avid gardener with a green thumb that everyone benefited from. She enjoyed traveling, reading the paper cover to cover and drinking coffee while she did it. Always clipping important information from the pages and sending them off to loved ones or taping them to the inside of her cabinet doors to use as a reference. Those who came to visit knew to show up hungry, in need of caffeine and good conversation...that's how she showed her love.

Survivors include a daughter: Sharon Thompson (Jim Gipson) of Oquawka, IL; a son: Marshall (Terry) Ayers of New Boston; four grandchildren: Kim Roberts of North Dakota; Doug (Kim) Ayers of New Boston; Chantel (Rob) Squier of Chester Springs, PA; Stacia (Matt) Tax of Roselle, IL; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers and two sisters.
