Paul R. Carlson, 62, of New Windsor, Illinois died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at his home. Services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Alpha United Methodist Church.  Burial is in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in North Henderson, Illinois where graveside military rites will be conducted.  Friends may come to the Alpha United Methodist Church from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2017 where they can share memories and enjoy fellowship.  Memorials may be made to Tri-County Ambulance or the Alpha United Methodist Church and online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

 

He was born March 20, 1954 in Galesburg, IL to David Owen and Dorothy Steffen Carlson. He graduated from Alexis High School in 1972. Paul married Loretta Berg and later married Sadie Simmons June 1, 2008 in Alpha.

 

Paul was a U.S. Marine veteran serving from 1975-1978 and also spent time in the Philippines.

 

Paul was employed at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg from 1988-2004. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1981-1983 and from 2005 until retiring in 2010.

 

He was a member of the Alpha United Methodist Church, member and past master of Rio Masonic Lodge #685 and the American Legion James Harvey Scott Post #189 in Alexis, Illinois.

 

He enjoyed riding his Harley, creating stained glass, watching John Wayne movies and especially spending time with his family.

 

He is survived by his wife, Sadie; 3 sisters: Marilyn (Van) Huffman of Pinedale, Wyoming; Mary (Bob) Shull of Rio, IL; Betty Golden of Pinedale, WY; 9 nieces and nephews; 16 great nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother and one sister, Nancy.
