Kamala S. Michael-Starrett, 58 of Genoa, WI, formerly of the Quad Cities and New Boston, IL died Friday, August 25, 2017 in Genoa. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the New Boston Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fippinger’s where a memorial fund will be established. Online condolences may be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.
She was born December 19, 1958 in Aledo, IL to Howard and Annabelle King Talbott. She graduated from Westmer High School in 1977. Kammie attended Carl Sandberg College and graduated from Ada Gaffney Shaff in Bettendorf, Iowa. She married David Michael and later married Robert Starrett on December 30, 1991 in Davenport, Iowa.
Kammie was employed as a preschool teacher in the Quad Cities area. She was employed by the Iowa DOT as a driver’s license examiner for 23 years. She worked for Fit 4 Life in Sparta for 7 years which inspired her to begin her own business Kammie’s Fitness Plus LLC in Sparta and Genoa, where she was an ACE certified personal trainer and health coach.
She was a member and sang in the choir at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta. Kammie also taught confirmation classes for middle school students.
Kammie was an avid runner. She enjoyed making jewelry, cards and crafting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Kammie is survived by her husband, Robert; one daughter, Ashley Michael of Holt, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Crystal (Chad) Pepper of Austin, MN; Amber (Josh) Mattick of Rose Creek, MN; 4 grandchildren: Eben, Jaxson, Stiles and Owen; her mother, Annabelle Talbott of New Boston, IL; one sister, Angie (Michael) Glover of Romeoville, IL; several nephews and nieces, including Taylor Glover of Chicago, IL; two aunts, Cheryl Lane of New Boston, IL and Marilyn Talbott of Sacramento, CA; two uncles, John King of Bennett, Iowa; Dean Talbott of Cambridge, IL.
Her father and several aunts and uncles preceded her in death.
